Music CD Review: [Linkin Park] Reanimation

Linkin Park has never claimed to be the first band to try a rock/hip hop fusion, but they may have the most successful hybrid outfit to date.  On a similar note, the remix album is far from a new idea, just look at Puffy, or Limp Bizkit.  However, Linkin Park once again proves that you can take an established idea, and make it both quality and original.

Reanimation is made up of tracks from Linkin Park's debut album Hybrid Theory as well as a b-side and a track from their EP that are mixed and scratched into an assault of thumping baselines, rearranged lyrics, and guest performances.  LP enlisted the aid of many mainstream and underground hip hop artists including Pharoahe Monch, Motion Man, Zion, Chali 2Na, and others, as well as rock favorites Stephen Richards, Aaron Lewis, and Korn's Jonathon Davis.  As for the mixing itself, tracks were cut up by guest DJ's Alchemist, The Humble Brothers, X-Ecutioners, Jay Gordon of Orgy, as well as Linkin Park's own DJ Joe Hahn and Mike Shinoda.

While the cd may not carry a consistent flow of perfection as LP's debut album Hybrid Theory did, it does have many high points and never drops below satisfactory.  CD highlights include "ENTH E ND" mixed by Kut Masta Kurt with blazing rythms as well as a great performance by Motion Man, and PPRikut which transforms the original track into a vision of a dark wasteland.

Score

 8 1/2

For a remix album, Reanimation does it's best to sound like original material.  Linkin Park quality oozes out of it, and it serves as a decent appetizer for Linkin Park's upcoming sophomore album.
