Game Review: Madden NFL 2003

**Submitted by Mike N

If you have read around lately, there seems to be a heated debate over which football title will reign supreme in the video gaming world. In the past the Madden series has always had an edge over its competitors and this year is no different.

First and foremost is the new addition of online play. In past football games a player would play for weeks against the same old boring AI that did the same plays and went for it in the same situations but now you can take competition to a new level and play people in other states like Texas, New York, or Florida. This adds a whole new dimension to the game as you can face a variety of teams and game players from all over the country.

Another addition to the newest installment of the Madden series is the very entertaining mini-camp mode where the player participates in a series of drills accumulating points, which win trophies. By winning trophies, the player then unlocks game time situations that concentrate on the drill that was just previously learned. This creates a better learning activity for a rookie who is new to the Madden series.

Graphics- Along with another year under its belt, the Madden team has taken another step in achieving some of the most realistic graphics in sports gaming. The player models are rendered better than ever before with amazing detail down to the player's fingertips. 9.5/10

Sound- The decision of Madden leaving the Fox network and signing with ABC brings a new color commentator to the table as Al Michaels joins John Madden. Though at times the commentating can clearly be detected as separate recordings pieced together, the great situational commentary and the mentioning of previous years stats in relation to the game being played overshadows it. 8.5/10

Game Play- The game play of this game maintains a realistic pace through each game played by the average gamer. Stays consistent with Madden of the past, which has always been superb. 9/10

Along with the above mentioned items, a fantastic in-depth create-a-playbook, and one of the deepest franchise modes for any football game ever Madden is a must buy for any avid football fan.
